Contractor Verification Policy

Most listings are not independently verified

Unless a listing is explicitly marked as verified, assume that we have not independently confirmed the business’s licensing, insurance, certifications, reviews, or current operating status. Many pages carry a "Not independently verified" note for this reason.

This is not a judgment about the business — it simply reflects that the listing was compiled from public information rather than checked by us.

What we never fabricate

We do not invent, estimate, or “fill in” any of the following. If we do not have verified information, we leave it out or label it clearly:

• Star ratings or review counts
• Customer reviews or testimonials
• Licenses, license numbers, or license status
• Certifications (NATE, EPA, manufacturer, trade association)
• Years in business or “since 19xx” claims
• Awards, accreditations, or “top-rated” badges

When a listing is marked verified

If and when we mark a listing as verified, the label will state what was checked and when — for example, that a state license number was confirmed as active on a given date. A verification is a snapshot; licensing and insurance can lapse, so you should still confirm current status yourself before hiring.

Always confirm before you hire

• Ask for the contractor's license number and look it up on your state licensing board's website
• Ask for a certificate of insurance naming you or your property
• Confirm the business is currently operating and serves your address
• Get the scope and price in writing before work begins

Report an inaccuracy

If a listing contains wrong or misleading information, contact us and we will review it. We remove listings on request from the business.
