Equipment and labor cost bands are derived from published industry pricing references, HVAC contractor pricing guides, manufacturer list pricing, trade publications, and aggregated ranges reported by homeowners and contractors. We express these as ranges because pricing varies by market, brand, and season. Reviewed periodically and after major equipment or refrigerant price shifts.
Default electricity, natural gas, propane, and heating-oil prices in our operating-cost tools are based on published national and regional average energy prices, primarily from U.S. Energy Information Administration data. You can override every energy price with your own utility rate.
Heating and cooling load factors by climate category are based on typical heating and cooling degree-day patterns for U.S. regions. They are approximations; a Manual J calculation for your specific home is more precise.
SEER2, HSPF2, AFUE, and heat-pump COP assumptions are based on current federal minimum standards and typical rated performance for standard, high-efficiency, and premium equipment tiers.
Directory listings are compiled from publicly available business information — business name, phone, website, and general service area. This data can be incomplete or out of date; see our How Contractors Are Listed and Contractor Verification Policy pages.
