Purpose

Our content exists to help homeowners make informed heating and cooling decisions — understanding a problem, estimating a cost, and knowing what to ask a contractor. It is general information, not personalized advice, and not a substitute for an in-person inspection by a licensed professional.

How content is created and reviewed

• Cost figures and formulas are based on published industry pricing references, contractor pricing guides, and government energy data — see Data Sources
• Guides are drafted, fact-checked against those sources, and reviewed for accuracy and safety language before publishing
• Calculator assumptions are documented publicly in our HVAC Cost Methodology
• Content is reviewed periodically and updated after significant changes in equipment, refrigerant rules, or incentive programs

Editorial independence

Advertisers and sponsored contractors have no input into our guides, cost estimates, or calculator logic. Sponsorship affects only labeled placement in the directory — it does not change a number, a recommendation, or a ranking of non-sponsored listings. Safety

We do not provide do-it-yourself instructions for work involving gas, electrical components, or refrigerant, and we direct readers to licensed, EPA-certified technicians for that work. Where a symptom could indicate a hazard — a gas smell, carbon monoxide, sparking — we say to leave the home and call 911 or the utility first.

Corrections

If we publish an error, we fix it and, for a material correction, note what changed. Spotted a mistake? Tell us — we take accuracy seriously.
